YEIS is the Young Enterprise In Science project.
YEIS was created as a result of the frustration of teaching secondary science in isolation, often divorced from the realities of how science is employed as a tool in the "real" world. The introduction in 2006 of the "How Science Works" strand of the current GCSE specification has, to some degree helped, but it is a small concesion towards understanding the role and responsibilities of scientists as they are employed by businesses and in industry.
YEIS aims to bring relavence of commercial applications to the study of science. YEIS is an ongoing project, designed to compliment the rigour of GCSE/A-level science and the entrepreneurial skills found in Business Studies courses.
YEIS is run as a business by the staff and students of Bettws High School, Newport, SWales.
